I was sitting in my room hanging out with my friend John. We were both bored, and I was playing wow, where as he was playing my Xbox 360.

"So when do you think you will play WoW?" I asked him.

"Only when Arthas is available to be killed." He replied without taking his eyes off Oblivion.

"Well what role would you play?"

"Something, that can do everything."

"Well, to Tank, Heal, and DPS, you need to be either a Paladin or a Druid."

"Then I would be a Paladin, because you know I only like Diablo 2 Druids."

"Yeah you're right, I kinda want to make a Paladin."

My friend John ended up staying the night with us continuing in the games we were playing.

John leaves my house and goes to hangout with his girlfriend who lives down the street. I sat around most of the day and watched a hockey game with my brother.

I was woken up to a phone call at 6 A.M. from my friends Girlfriend. The first words she spoke to me I will never forget.

"JOHN IS DEAD!" She yelled.

"Wait, what?"I asked in confusion.

"He's dead, he was hit by a car last night. He's dead! He's dead!"

"Are you serious?" My hands start to tremble, hoping she is only kidding, "what makes you say that?"

"He was hit by a car at 8 last night, the driver ran away, my dad told me this his friend works at the hospital he was taken to." She was obviously crying.

"Alright, umm, get ahold of everyone else, I will find out as much as I can." I began to cry, and searched all news stations and websites. Nothing.

At 8 A.M. the first article was posted, he wasn't dead. He was in a coma. At a Hospital and hour away from me. I make a trip down there to find his Dad and Mom both standing outside of I.C.U.

I made a toon and called it Secondchance, for when my friend woke up he could play it and level it.

I log on into WoW on Secondchance and level him up a bit, and join the guild I was in on my main, but as I first log in someone says in G-Chat, "There is no second chance." I then told him of the current situation and he apologized.

My friend John passed away. And his funeral was held the next weekend on the 18th.

I renamed the character from Secondchance to Johnmejias.

Johnmejias reaches level 80.


And to this day Johnmejias fights for the Alliance as the MT or OT for his guild, killing those that stand before him to fight off the Lich King. I am glad I have made this character because it is to me, a great way to honor my friend.

This story really got to me, great tribute to your friend.

I can't help posting something here, but it is hard to know what words to say. Thanks for bringing the contest winners to my attention, this one especially. Read this, the winner, first, and then started reading the rest from the top. Stopped here again, and will have to read the rest some other time... Amazing how many of these stories are about love... And that the words coming to mind right now were written at the end of Jdumoulin's story:

Yet in this darkness, we are not alone. We have friends and family that surround us with their love, sheltering us from that pain. With this help, we can pull out of any dark corner, the light banishing the dark, for it is not meant to be there.

Pain is a distant thing compared to love. It is worth the pain of a thousand years to feel the smallest piece of love for even the smallest of seconds. The heart is a wondrous thing. Now I realize what the birds singing truly means:

Paradise is always where love dwells.

Your enduring friendship/love for John still shines through to this day, as you said. And if you believe in The Light, as I do, you'll play WoW in Paradise with him for real some day. Have a blessed life, TJ. It'll be worth it to have lots more stories to share, both with us and with John!
